Considering that the post-COVID box office is littered with the bones of films that died in their quest to lure grown-ups back into the seats, Amazon seems to be chasing an audience that still may not have fully committed to return to the theater.īut if any movie is going to do it, it just may be "Air," an engaging and entertaining trip down memory lane and behind-the-scenes story that turns a seemingly minor moment in sports history - the development of a shoe that became a pop-cultural touchstone - into something often funny and occasionally moving. Some might question that go-big-or-go-home decision, as the movie is a period-piece aimed at adults that is not a franchise, doesn't have any explosions and features music from Violent Femmes and Bruce Springsteen, not Rihanna or Lady Gaga. Instead of taking the obvious streaming route for which it's known, Amazon is releasing the film April 5 exclusively on approximately 3,000 screens nationwide.
